What is Code Camp?
Code Camp is by developers and for developers. It's an idea that started in the Eastern U.S. and has taken hold throughout various development communities around the world. The goal of Code Camps is to provide an intensive, developer-to-developer learning experience that is fun and technically stimulating. Code Camp is created and run by and for the local community. This is your event. The primary focus is on delivering programming information and sample code that can be used immediately. Be sure to register for the event so we can plan ahead. We look forward to seeing you there.
Where is Code Camp?
Roanoke Code Camp has always been held at Virginia Western Community College in Roanoke, VA. For more details click here. However, this venue may change in the future.
What can I expect at the Roanoke Code Camp?
One jam packed day of talking and learning about code with fellow developers. Sessions typically range from informal “chalk talks” to full blown presentations. There will be a mix of presenters, some experienced folks, and for some, it may be their first opportunity to speak in public. We typically have speakers from throughout the area and beyond. Watch this site for more details and check the schedule often as we firm things up.
Is this a Microsoft (or open source, Java, etc) event?
The answer is no (or all of the above depending on your perspective). This is a Roanoke developer community event and we're not affiliated with any businesses. Everyone is welcome to present so long as it fits the Code Camp guidelines (must be about code somehow, and isn't a direct blatant advertisement for a product or service). Don't think about Code Camp in terms of what technological faction it caters to... it's not like other events. Think about Code Camp as an event where developers convene and share their knowledge and experience. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to participate!
How do I speak at Roanoke Code Camp?
After you have registered, send us an eMail with your proposed description and title. You will be notified if the topic has been accepted by our speakers panel.
How long are the sessions?
Sessions are typically 75 minutes long. The general rule of thumb for a presentation is to have 60 minutes for presentation and 15 minutes for questions. This is just a guideline, though; if you need the whole time for your demo, it's your session. Likewise, if you'd like to have an open discussion for the entire time, that's okay too. Keep in mind as you estimate the length of your presentation that things usually run longer with an audience in the room. An hour goes by very quickly when people are asking questions!
Who is making Roanoke Code Camp happen?
Roanoke Code Camp is primarily organized by The Roanoke Valley .Net Users Group, with support from The Roanoke Valley SQL Users Group, and The Roanoke Valley SharePoint Users Group. Please support the many contributors to this event.
